HEADED OUT AGAIN - Michael Butler, a 1969 graduate of Portsmouth Catholic High School, will be going to Oslo after Christmas as the American consul for political and economic affairs.
Butler, who recently completed two years as visiting professor of international affairs at the U.S. Military Academy, and his family have been visiting here before going to Washington to learn Norwegian.
He recently completed a book on American diplomacy from 1933-37 as practiced by Cordell Hull, secretary of state under President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
``It's under review by the publisher and I hope to have news about it soon,'' he said.
Married to the former Denise Gregorio of Virginia Beach, Butler is the son of Norman ``Bubber'' Butler and Theresa Butler of Portsmouth. The couple have two children.
A former sports reporter for The Ledger-Star, Butler has an undergraduate degree and a doctorate from the University of Virginia and holds a master's degree from Old Dominion University. He has been a foreign service officer with the State Department for 15 years.
FAMILY TIME - Mayor Gloria Webb has been enjoying her children and grandchildren in recent weeks.
``I've been wanting to get a family portrait and they finally all managed to get here at the same time,'' she said.
That's no easy feat since the children live in Chicago, Indianapolis, Toledo and Roanoke. The eight grandchildren range in age from five months to seven years.
