EDGAR M. HITCHINGS

Edgar M. Hitchings, 83, joined his heavenly father on Aug. 17, 1995.

Mr. Hitchings, a retired bookkeeper for F.S. Royster, was born in Norfolk. He worked for F.S. Royster for many years. He was the widower of Rebecca C. Hitchings, his wife of 49 years, and he was a member for many years at Talbot Park Baptist Church, Norfolk. He was affiliated with the Atlantic Lodge (NU)2 AF and AM. He was a 33rd degree member of Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Norfolk, Khedive Temple of the Shrine.

Survivors include one daughter, Susan R. Hitchings of Norfolk; one brother-in-law, Tommy J. Ashley of Norfolk; two nieces, Nancy Hitchings Hall of Norfolk, Margaret Hitchings Ricks of Chesapeake; one cousin, Judge Vernon D. Hitchings of Norfolk; and many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Edgar P. and Elizabeth W. Hitchings of Norfolk; and his brother and sister-in-law, Milton V. and Margaret S. Hitchings.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Forest Lawn Cemetery, where Masonic rites will be accorded, by Dr. Harry T. Dixon. Visitation at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, will be at 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. The family will be at Mrs. Nancy Hall's residence at 159 Haven Drive, Norfolk, at other times. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Children's Hospital of the Shrine, care of Khedive Shrine Temple, 645 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, Va.
