AFTER THE SEAS CALM DOWN, FISHING SHOULD PICK UP

Fishing along the Dare coast has been at a standstill over the past couple of days due to rough seas generated by the passage of Hurricane Felix offshore.

Conditions moderated considerably by Thursday afternoon, allowing a handful of anglers to get back to business on ocean piers along the northern beaches.

On Kitty Hawk Pier, good numbers of spot were taken on bloodworms during most of the afternoon.

All piers along the Outer Banks should be back in operation today.

Offshore fishing, which was excellent for billfish before the rough weather, should resume by the weekend, provided seas continue to fall.

Surf fishing action should also resume within a day or so.

The outlook for the weekend is excellent. Spot fishing should be good on piers all along the Outer Banks.

Surf fishing should also be great for smaller bottom feeders as soon as seas subside and water clarity improves, and offshore anglers should find good concentration of white marlin northeast of Oregon Inlet.

Water temperature at Duck Corps of Engineers Pier was 80 degrees on Thursday. by CNB
