FELIX MUDDIES THE WATERS FOR LOCAL FISHERMEN

Pier fishing along the northern beaches was fair Friday.

On Kitty Hawk Pier, anglers landed scattered spot out of very muddy water resulting from the passage of Hurricane Felix offshore.

Avalon Pier reported some spot taken during the morning. Fishing was slow on Nags Head Pier. Spot and a few croaker were landed on Jennette's Pier during the afternoon. Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier caught small croakers.

South of Oregon Inlet on Hatteras Island, piers reported few fishermen and little action.

Conditions in the surf were difficult because of large swells generated by Felix offshore. Along the northern beaches and around Oregon Inlet, a few bottom fish were taken by anglers fishing in protected areas.

At Cape Point, a few small blues and puppy drum were beached during the morning. Little action was reported on the beach south of Cape Point to Hatteras Inlet.

Hopefully, seas will continue to moderate, allowing surf fishermen a better chance of landing fish over the weekend.

Water temperature at the Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 78 degrees Friday. by CNB
