CARL J. MAYS JR.

Carl Jefferson Mays Jr., 74, of the 2200 block of Rodgers St., died Aug. 18, 1995, in Chesapeake.

Mr. Mays, a retired assistant engineer, worked for Bell Atlantic for 40 years, and he retired in 1982. He was born in South Norfolk, and was a member of Old Timers Club of South Norfolk, Telephone Pioneers of America, Bide-A-Wee Golf Club. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie M. Mays; one daughter, Laura Mays Stevens of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Laura Capps of Chesapeake, and Evelyn Carey of Norfolk; two grandchildren, Jennifer Stevens and Whitney Stevens, both of Virginia Beach. He was predeceased by one son, Carl Jefferson Mays III.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, 1995, in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Frank Hughes. Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, in charge. The family will receive friends at the residence.
