Elbert ``Shorty'' Earl Currin, age 71, of the 8000 block of Arrowwood Court, died in DePaul Hospital Saturday, Aug. 19, 1995.
He was the son of the late William Robert and Venie Elizabeth Brown Currin, and the husband of Jean Jones Currin of the home, who survives. Mr. Currin was retired from Bemis Bag Company after 28 years of service. After his retirement, he was self-employed with Hydrosonic Systems of Tidewater for 17 years. Elbert was born Jan. 23, 1924, in Ahoskie, N.C.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Gale Currin Conkling and her husband, Thomas Craig Conkling, of Hampton; three sisters, Hazel Todd of Ahoskie, Irma Williams of Colerain, N.C., Louise Todd of Hertford, N.C.; and one grandson, Christopher Michael Conkling of Hampton, Va.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 2 p.m., August 21, 1995, in the Riverside Cemetery with the Rev. Johnny McDonald officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 7 p.m., and at other times at the residence on Arrowwood Court in Norfolk. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Foundation. Twiford's Funeral Home, Ghent Chapel, 1920 Colley Ave., Norfolk, is in charge of arrangements.
