MERGERS

Two of Virginia's largest real estate firms will join forces to develop James City County housing. The real estate subsidiaries of Chesapeake Corp. and Dominion Resources Inc., Stonehouse Inc. and Dominion Land Management Co., respectively, have agreed to a joint venture for the first phase of a residential project between Richmond and Williamsburg.

The Stonehouse development - 800 homes priced from $160,000 to $300,000 - will be built on 875-acres in James City County. The project will be managed by Dominion Land Management Co. Inc., the real estate management group formed by Dominion Capital to manage the project.

The tract, now zoned for residential and mixed use, is expected to break ground in late 1996 or early 1997.

INTERNET LOCATIONS

Microsoft Corp. said that Internet users won't have to leave their computers to participate in the Windows(R) 95 launch event. People worldwide will be able to enjoy many of the same activities as those attending the company's product introduction event on Aug. 24, via the Microsoft(R) Windows 95 operating system home page on the Internet's World Wide Web.

NEW BUSINESSES

Janet Woods has opened Janet's Fashions in the Thoroughgood Commons, Suite 106, Pleasure House Road in Virginia Beach. Woods said the shop will cater to the mature woman, offering fashions and accessories.

Labor World, a temporary industrial staffing personnel service, has opened in Newport News at 11000 Jefferson Avenue. The Chicago-based franchise is owned and operated by Dan McAnnar. Labor World has operations in Norfolk and Richmond.

Business bankruptcies filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Norfolk:

Terry Masonry Inc. filed Chapter 11 reorganization on Aug. 8 with assets of $114,432.50 and liabilities of $245,543.

Albert S. Johnson III and Ronna F. Johnson, South Atlantic cleaning contractor, filed Chapter 13 debt repayment plan on Aug. 9 with assets of $84,755 and liabilities of $94,671.74.

Ribs Discount Inc., real estate corporation, filed Chapter 11 reorganization on Aug. 9 with assets of $628,000 and liabilities of $2,009,896.

Derr-Cruz Sewing Contractors, trading as Fashion Flair, filed Chapter 7 liquidation on Aug. 10 with assets of $20 and liabilities of $26,092.60.

Paul H. Kube Jr., fitness club, filed Chapter 13 debt repayment plan on Aug. 11 with assets of $42,479 and liabilities of $43,735.24.

Phillip B. Huffman, construction, filed Chapter 7 liquidation on Aug. 11 with assets of $8,180 and liabilities of $108,740.02.

CBC Enterprises Inc. in Norfolk received a $536,849 contract from NASA for roof repairs on various buildings at Wallops Island.

S.B. Ballard Inc. in Norfolk received a contract from the Norfolk Airport Authority for a snow removal equipment maintenance site and building at the Norfolk International Airport.

Riggins Co. Inc. in Hampton received a $777,777 contract from Langley Research Center for model cart hydraulic lift system replacement for the subsonic tunnel.

North Bay Construction in Williamsburg received a $3 million contract from the city of Norfolk for central plant renovations at the Civil Center complex.
