PROPERTY OWNER CALLS THEFT OF SIGN CHEAP TRICK

As a lifelong citizen of Isle of Wight County, the Town of Smithfield and the United States of America since July 1916, I had always been under the impression that everyone was free to express themselves as they saw fit, as long as it didn't harm anyone else physically or mentally.

Some time ago, I asked for a sign promoting the re-election of Mr. C.W. Phelps as sheriff of Isle of Wight County on Nov. 7, 1995. I got the sign and had it placed on the fence in my yard at the corner of Grace and Institute.

While I was at Sunday school and church Sunday morning, Aug. 13, someone apparently did not agree with me, which is his privilege and right to do. But in no way do they have a right to remove this sign from my property. Therefore, if I or the police of Smithfield or deputy sheriffs of Isle of Wight can in any way identify you or catch you, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law by one of the best prosecuting lawyers money can hire.

Congratulations to you for accomplishing such a cheap trick!
