AREA CRIES ``WOLF'' OVER HURRICANES

Gee, a Navy Seal was arrested in Sandbridge for swimming when he wasn't supposed to. Stop the presses! Isn't there something more newsworthy, or at least interesting, to take up almost half of the front page of the Metro-News section (Aug. 18)?

Hampton Roads must be the wimpiest area of the nation when it comes to weather. Every time a hurricane is within 1,000 miles of us, that's all you hear about all week. I've lived here for 11 years, and the only damage I've seen in Virginia Beach done by Mother Nature is to houses built right up against the ocean. And if you ask me, those people shouldn't act so shocked when nature takes its course. That's comparable to building your house on the edge of a cliff and then staring in amazement as it eventually slides over.

I was in Sandbridge and witnessed a Channel 3 cameraman taking footage of a family carrying things out of their house. If non-Sandbridge residents cannot go there during a storm, that should include the media. But I guess we need a live report to know that it's windy out there.

You guys are going to cry wolf one time too many.

And we have nothing to worry about, anyway. After all, we've got Pat Robertson to pray the storms away.
