DORIS S. GRIFFITH

Doris Mae Strohkorb Griffith, died Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Burke Health Care Center in Burke.

Mrs. Griffith was the wife of the late Robert Boyce Griffith and the daughter of the late Arnold W. and Mable C. Strohkorb. She was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Virginia Beach and the Princess Anne Garden Club.

Mrs. Griffith grew up in Richmond and lived there until the 1940s. She graduated from John Marshall High School in Richmond and attended West Hampton College for Women. In 1946 she married Robert Boyce Griffith.

Mrs. Griffith moved to Virginia Beach in the late 1940s to assist her mother, former owner of Marilyns Inn, which was located at 23rd Street and the Oceanfront. The hotel was popular with the summer visitors during the 1940s and 1950s. It was particularly noted for its Saturday evening buffets during the summers. Mrs. Griffith and Mrs. Bilpuch owned and operated the hotel following their mother's death until 1968. Mrs. Griffith also owned and operated a small apartment building on 24th Street until 1994.

She is survived by a son, Gary Walter Griffith of Kingstowne and a sister, Mrs. Marilyn Bilpuch of Chapel Hill, N.C.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 1995, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, by the Rev. William Kincaid. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in her name to the Virginia Beach Friends School, 1537 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23454.
