WILLIAM H. HARDY SR.

William Henry Hardy Sr. quietly and peacefully departed this earthly life, Monday, Aug. 21, 1995, at 6 a.m. in his home, 861 W. 35th St., in Norfolk, Va.

He was born May 8, 1919, to the late Carrie and Bob Hardy in Smithfield, N.C. He attended the public schools, then enlisted in the Army and was a World War II veteran. He retired as a Merchant Seaman from the National Maritime Union.

In October 1993, W.H.H. Sr. reaffirmed his faith and became a member of New Bethel Baptist Chruch. He was a loving, kind and caring person. Precious memories will linger in the heart of his loving wife and devoted friend, Vernice L. Hardy. From that union were two children, Gail Hardy-Boyd and William H. Hardy Jr.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by Elsie Speaks-McKay. He had three stepsons, George J. Granberry, Charles Brooks, Samuel Wilson, and a host of relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon today in New Bethel Baptist Church, Portsmouth. Riddick Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
