Jose Guadalupe Vasquez, 81, of the 1100 block of Jewell Ave., died Aug. 23, 1995, in his residence.
He was a native of Port Isabel, Texas. He retired from Westview Building Corp. where he worked as a dredge operator. He was a member of First United Pentecostal Church. Mr. Vasquez was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Irene Vasquez; five daughters, Josephine Patterson of Norfolk, Rosa James of Portsmouth, Teresa Clark of Chesapeake, Liz Vannoy of Granger, Ind., and Delores Garcia of Houston, Texas; two sons, Jose G. Vasquez Jr. of Choctaw, Okla., and Emilo Vasquez of Port Isabel, Texas; four brothers, Juan D. Vasquez, Brigido D. Vasquez, both of Port Isabel, Texas; and Ignacio D. Vasquez and Sefrino D. Vasquez, both of Brownsville, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a beloved niece, Natalia Martin of Corpus Christi, Texas. He was preceded in death by two sisters; two brothers; and his parents, Juan G. and Natalia Dominguez Vasquez.
A funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Gary Linville and the Rev. William R. Hall. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
