FRANCES J. ATKINS

Frances Belle Joyner Atkins, 89, a resident of Ivor, Va., died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 1995, in Hillhaven Nansemond Nursing Home, Suffolk.

She was the widow of Jack E. Atkins Sr. and her parents were the late John Horace and Rosa Belle Wellons Joyner. Mrs. Atkins was a native of Isle of Wight County and she was a member of Ivor Baptist Church. She was formerly a member and Sunday School teacher at Tucker Swamp Baptist Church. She was a charter member of the Ivor Senior Citizen's Club.

She was a dedicated and devoted Christian mother to her large and close-knit family. She is survived by three daughters, Ethel A. Owen of Suffolk, Becky A. Maifeld of Wakefield, and Alice Faye Lowe of Suffolk; three sons, Jack E. Atkins Jr. of Ivor, Robert L. Atkins of Wakefield and John A. Atkins of Kentucky; 23 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Horace E. Atkins, Albert F. Atkins, and William F. Atkins.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, by the Rev. J. Waverly Horne and the Rev. Jackson L. Joyner. Burial will be in Tucker Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, Zuni. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad.
