RICHARD RICE

Richard ``Poor Sam'' Rice, of 1210 Jamal Lane West, died Aug. 22, 1995, in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth.

He was a retired longshoreman of International Longshoreman (NU)1248 where he worked for over 25 years. Mr. Rice was born in Wilson, N.C. and was the widower of Sarah O. Rice. He was also a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by one daughter, Nettie N. Rice of Portsmouth; one sister, Essie Loper of Delaware; one grandson, Ulysses L. Rice of Portsmouth; four aunts; one uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday by the Rev. Clifton Wilson in Corprew Funeral Home Chapel, Portsmouth. Burial is in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, with Military Honors. Viewing at the funeral home will begin at 10 a.m. Friday. ILLUSTRATION: Personal Photo
