MOSES A. HARDIE SR.

Moses A. Hardie Sr., 81, of the 500 block of Spectator St., died Aug. 23, 1995, in his home.

He was a native of Sunbury, N.C., and was a member, deacon and former chairman of the Deacon Board at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Portsmouth. He was also a member of the Senior Choir and Male Chorus. He was a retired stevedore from the Norfolk Naval Supply Center after 30 years of service, and a retired maintenance engineer with Virginia Power after seven years. He was also a member of Mount Gilead Lodge (NU)102, Order of Masons, and a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah B. Hardie; one son, Moses A. Hardie Jr. of Streamwood, Ill.; his step-mother, Otis Hardie of Sunbury; six sisters, Manier Webber, Martha Bembry, Cora Roberts, and Eula Riley, all of New York, Lillie Costen of Hakensack, N.J., and Mary Boone of Sunbury; six brothers, John W. Hardie Sr., William M. Hardie, both of Portsmouth, Henry Hardie and Hallie Jones, both of Suffolk, Lawrence Hardie and Charlie Hardie, both of Sunbury; two grandchildren, Crystal Hardie and Moses A. Hardie III, both of Streamwood, Ill.; one aunt, Annie Whedbee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends; and a daughter-in-law, Joanne C. Hardie.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Ebenezer Baptist Church by the Rev. Ben A. Beamer Sr. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, with Masonic Honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. Friday. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.
