CROAKER AND SPOT RESPOND TO GOOD WATER

Good water conditions along the northern beaches Wednesday resulted in croaker and spot action for pier and surf anglers.

Plenty of nice spot were landed on Kitty Hawk Pier during the afternoon. Avalon Pier reported some spot decked during the morning.

Spot, croaker and tailor bluefish were taken on Nags Head Pier. Anglers on Jennette's Pier had a slow day, catching only a few croaker.

Some spot, small croaker and a couple of sea mullet were landed on Outer Banks Pier. Tailor blues were caught from the end of the pier on jerk jiggers.

On Hatteras Island, croakers and good numbers of spot were landed on Rodanthe Pier. Fishermen on Avon Pier caught spot steadily throughout the afternoon. Frisco Pier reported spot, tailor bluefish and medium-sized sea mullet taken.

Spot fishing was good along the beach from Corolla to Oregon Inlet. Small bottom fish, a few bluefish and some trout were beached around the inlet. Spot, croaker, mullet and pompano were landed from ramps 23 to 27.

A few Spanish mackerel were taken Tuesday evening at Cape Point. Some Spanish mackerel, bluefish and small bottom fish were landed Wednesday. Small bottom fish were taken along the beach from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet.

Inshore trolling was generally slow around Oregon Inlet. Headboat action was fair with scattered croaker and pigfish taken in the sound.

Blue water fishing was good off Oregon Inlet Wednesday. Offshore charters landed plenty of dolphin of mixed sizes. A few wahoo and several tuna also were taken.

Billfishing was fairly good east of Oregon Inlet. About 22 billfish were released, including three sailfish and two white marlin by the Surfside, and three sailfish by the Fight 'N' Lady.

Off Hatteras, scattered dolphin and wahoo were taken by the charter fleet. Three sailfish, a white marlin and a spearfish were released.

Spot and croaker fishing should be good in the surf all along the Dare coast on the incoming tide.

The water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 75.5 degrees Wednesday. by CNB
