Businessman Walter Comstock, who has been running his confectionary and eatery on Water Street for more than 42 years, received the state's highest citizen honor from Gov. James B. Hunt Jr. on Wednesday.
Hunt presented Comstock with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine during a Chamber of Commerce lunch at the K.E. White Graduate Center.
``He works all the time. Stalk's has just got this great reputation,'' Hunt said, adding that Comstock is ``a man who is loved and cared for because he cares for others.''
Comstock said the award was a surprise.
``I was kind of excited,'' Comstock said. ``I'm real proud that I got that.'' by CNB
