A record number of people participated in the annual Buchanan Cup Regatta that took place Sunday off Colington Harbour.
The Roanoke Island Yacht Club provided the four Lido boats for the competition. Six races were held to accommodate the nine skippers who registered. Bob and Betty Buchanan, sponsors of the event, held an awards picnic for the 50 people who attended at the Picnic Grove in Colington Harbour.
The race winner was Aubrey Kitchin. Tom Whitaker was second, and Randy Saunders was third. by CNB
