Boston's out, another local team is in and Seattle is wavering.
That was the situation Wednesday evening as Hampton Roads Pro-Am commissioner Wayne Hoffler was working to finalize the field for the national Pro-Am Invitational basketball tournament being held here today through Sunday.
``A lot of times you've got to wait to see who shows,'' Hoffler said. ``I'm prepared for whatever angles these people throw at me.''
The Boston entry threw Hoffler a curve Wednesday when it pulled out late. Hoffler replaced it with a third local team, the Tidewater All-Stars.
The Seattle team may also not show, Hoffler said. He was trying to secure a team from Richmond to replace it, if needed.
``We'd like to keep it at 12 teams,'' he said.
Teams from Atlanta, Chicago, Maryland, New York, Philadelphia and the U.S. Military have committed. New York and Philadelphia are bringing two teams each, and there will be three local entries.
First-round matchups had not been determined Wednesday evening, but play was scheduled to begin today with games at 5, 7 and 9 p.m. at Lake Taylor and Booker T. Washington high schools. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for students and $1 for children under 12. by CNB
