IT'LL BE SERIOUS FUN under the sun at the Virginia Beach oceanfront this weekend at the East Coast Surfing Championships. There might even be a few good size breakers left over from Hurricane Felix's swing by. At 33-years and rolling, this is the second oldest continuous run surfing championship in the world. Professional surfers hit the waves at the First Street jetty while amateurs paddle out off Second Street. Other beach activities include a 5K race, volleyball and skimboarding tournaments and the ever-popular women's swimsuit contest. Expect plenty of music all weekend on the Fourth Street Stage with headliners Material Issue wrapping things up at 4:30 Sunday. Surfing starts at 7 today through Sunday. 557-6140.

AFTER A COUPLE OF SOLO shows in Virginia Beach since 1993, Warren Zevon hits the Bayou at 8 p.m. Sunday with a full-fledged rock band, Ireland's Something Happens, who'll both back him and open with a set of originals culled from their own albums. If you've never caught one of the best things California pop music has kicked up in the past 20 years, here's your chance to hear a selection of his best (from his classic 1976 self-titled disc to this year's ``Mutineer'') brilliantly performed. And maybe he'll even yowl ``Werewolf of London.'' The Bayou is inside the Radisson Hotel in Virginia Beach. 422-8900, ext. 7164. Tickets: $10.
