ATLANTIC SHORES DEFEATS ISLE OF WIGHT, 21-0

The Atlantic Shores football team rebounded from a first half of miscues to beat Isle of Wight Academy, 21-0, in the season opener for both teams.

The Seahawks rushed for over 300 yards to give coach Adam Cheyunski a win in his debut.

Atlantic Shores committed three turnovers, including a fumble in the end zone, and had a 24-yard touchdown run called back after a clipping penalty in the first half.

The Seahawks came back in the second half to rush for 214 yards and three touchdowns.

``It took us a while to get warmed up because it was our first game situation,'' Cheyunski said. ``Once our timing was down we did what we were supposed to and took control.''

Atlantic Shores held Isle of Wight quarterback Richard Spady to 5-for-21 passing and forced the senior into four interceptions.

``Coach told us all week that (Spady) threw for over 1,600 yards last year so get ready,'' said senior free safety Shaun Williams, who had two interceptions. ``We knew after we got a lead we'd be getting even more passes.''

Atlantic Shores' D.J. Jordan rushed for 190 yards and one touchdown, while B.J. Skipper ran for 110 yards and two scores.

After holding the Chargers on a fourth down at the Atlantic Shores 29-yard line, the Seahawks put together a nine-play, 71-yard drive, capped by Jordan's two-yard run late in the third quarter.

Less than a minute later, Spady's pass was intercepted by Josh Milan at the Chargers 24. Jordan then ran for 20 yards. Then Skipper dove into the end zone from the two to put Atlantic Shores up, 14-0, after a two-point conversion.

Skipper added a one-yard touchdown run with 2:10 left.

``(The offensive line) was really determined,'' Jordan said. ``As soon as halftime came, we knew we better settle down because after all the fumbles and penalties, it was kind of embarrassing to be tied at zero.'' by CNB
