VINTAGE PLANES: World War II airplanes will be on display all this week at the Hampton Roads Airport and a collection of motor vehicles will be added for Labor Day weekend.
The airplanes will be presented by the Old Dominion Squadron of the Confederate Air Force. This non-profit group is part of the American Airpower Heritage Foundation and is dedicated to preserve the old warplanes as a flying museum.
The second exhibit, featuring a World War II campsite and the motor vehicles, will be presented by the Virginia Military Vehicle Association.
Planes that will be displayed Aug. 28 - Sept. 3 include the B-17G Flying Fortress ``Sentimental Journey;'' a rare German Heinkel-111 bomber; a Japanese ``Kate'' torpedo bomber like those used to attack Pearl Harbor; a C-60 ``Lodestar'' transport, a C-45 transport/trainer, a B-25 Mitchell Bomber, a Navy SNJ trainer and a PT-23 trainer.
A Navy FM-2 Wildcat will be displayed Monday-Thursday and a Navy SB2C Helldiver bomber will be displayed Monday-Wednesday.
The Labor Day weekend display will include jeeps, trucks and other motor vehicles.
The display will be set up at the west end of the airport and open each day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission will be $5 for adults, $2 for older children, free for young children and people in uniform.
The airport is located on U.S. 58 between Portsmouth and Suffolk.

FACE TO FACE: A celebration picnic Sept. 9 at City Park will honor 58 citizens who were members of seven study circles on race relations working under under the Cultural Diversity Action Team.
Participants from all of the circles will attend along with those who have been circle members in the past.
