Some people continue to mistakenly blame the city for a plan to tear down River Edge apartments, which are privately owned and which have been scheduled for demolition for a long time.
Years ago, when Bush Construction bought these apartments and Fairwood Homes, the company said it planned to raze the ``temporary'' World War II housing to make way for new construction.
The action has been slow coming but people living there have known the buildings would be taken down.
The developers have said they would move River Edge residents in good standing to Fairwood Homes, which apparently are not scheduled for demolition at this time. In fact, some sections of Fairwood may be refurbished and retained.
The city needs the revenue that would be generated by new single-family dwellings at the River Edge site. However, all of the activity is motivated by private owners, not by the city. by CNB
