Carroll R. Bailey Jr.
Hunt-Mapp Middle School
Age: 49
g1vvprin Bailey Previous work experience: Principal at the former Secondary Education Center; director of special education and services; director of instruction.
Goals for your school: To continue to develop the magnet aerospace theme on a schoolwide basis; to encourage 67 percent of the teachers to use the aerospace theme in daily instruction; to help all students pass every part of the Literacy Passport Test; to significantly improve the instructional climate; to help Hunt-Mapp acquire its own ultralight airplane by the end of the school year; to secure flight training for at least six students; to build community involvement and recreational usage of the school for students' benefit.
Betty Bartlett
Churchland Elementary School
Age: 57
Previous work experience: Elementary school principal, most recently at Hodges Manor Elementary; language arts specialist.
Goals for your school: Bartlett said she needed more time to review school data and talk with the school's staff and parents before setting specific goals. But she said her goals would center on improving academic achievement and the school's overall climate, working to prevent students from dropping out later in school and expanding the Continuous Progress program. Generally speaking, that program allows students to learn at their own pace. Fast learners can easily move on to material normally taught in the next traditional grade level. Students having trouble get more time to catch on.
Valerie Harding Brown
Mt. Hermon Elementary
Age: 49
Previous work experience: Teacher; assistant principal; principal of the former Mount Hermon Elementary Education Center for students g2vvprin Brown with special needs. She will remain at Mt. Hermon, which was converted to a regular elementary school under the community schools plan.
Goals for your school: To emphasize cooperative learning and the use of portfolio assessment; to work closely with parents and the community; to empower students to be responsible learners. (Note: Generally speaking, ``portfolio assessment'' is the evaluation of students' knowledge based on work that demonstrates their understanding of concepts and skills.)

g4vvprin Johnson Previous work experience: Kindergarten teacher; teacher in the gifted-and-talented program. Assistant principal at Highland-Biltmore, James Hurst, Shea Terrace, Simonsdale, Hodges Manor, John Tyler, Olive Branch, Port Norfolk and Park View elementary schools; quality trainer for the district from 1993-95.
Goals for your school: To recruit and retain quality teachers and staffers; to expose students to careers in math, science and technology; to provide a positive learning environment; to promote team work, as well as leadership and decision-making skills.

Cradock Middle School

Previous work experience: Elementary, middle and high school principal, most recently at William E. Waters Middle; coordinator of transportation.
Goals for your school: To continue g5vvprin Morgan efforts to improve student performance in reading, writing and math; to increase the communication between Cradock Middle and the elementary schools that feed students to it; to decrease the number of students who miss more than 10 days of school; to establish new partnerships to increase community support for the school; to involve more parents in school activities.
