THOMAS H. ROOD

Thomas Harold ``Tom'' Rood, 41, of the 100 block of West Ocean Ave., died Aug. 26, 1995, peacefully at home with friends.

He was born May 28, 1954, in Philadelphia, Pa., and grew up in Elysburg, Pa. Tom moved to Virginia Beach and worked for Beverly Enterprises and was later transferred to Atlanta for a year with the Systematics Corporation. He returned to Norfolk this past spring.

Tom was predeceased by his father, Donald Rood. He is survived by his mother, June Rood; a sister, Diane Byers; a beautiful niece and nephew, Emma and Evan, all of State College, Pa.; a grandfather, Charles Gibson of Vero Beach, Fla.; and many friends in Norfolk, Rehoboth Beach, and Key West.

Tom's favorite pastime was traveling. He could always be seen with his camera, and thanks to him, we all have many great pictures to treasure. He was a member of the Mid Atlantic Bowling League and the Mid Atlantic Softball League. He played for several years with the NFI Poison Ivy Softball Team.

Tom's remains have been cremated and his ashes will be scattered at Rehoboth Beach, Del., and Key West, by friends.

A celebration of Tom's life will be held from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. today in Nutty Buddys, 143 East Little Creek Road, Norfolk. Tom's wish was for his friends and co-workers to take a moment to send a card, make a phone call or send flowers to someone that is struggling with AIDS, or to make a contribution to your local AIDS organization. Altmeyer Funeral Home in charge.
