ELLIOTTE C. NEWTON

Elliotte Charles Newton, who passed on Aug. 25, 1995, was born Aug. 25, 1912, in Carthage, Jasper County, Mo.

He was the son of Aaron Tracy and Mabel Blanche Hidgon Newton. He came to Norfolk in 1924 and graduated in 1932 from Maury High School. He began his career with the federal government in the Agriculture Department, transferring to the Riggers' Shop (NU)72 of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. In 1942, he got into the Naval Supply Center, where he worked until his retirement in 1980.

He was a 50-year member of Norfolk Lodge (NU)1, AF and AM, a 50-year member and past High Priest of John Walters Royal Arch Chapter (NU)68, the Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies, Virginia Research Royal Arch Chapter (NU)1753, and served on the Guardian Council of Bethel (NU)3, International Order of Job's Daughters. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the NARFE retirees association (NU)1601.

He was the widower of Jeanette Doyle Wagner Newton, Eunice Lindsey Cheney Newton and Elizabeth Cox Searles ``Betty'' Newton. He was a member of several area churches, the latest being Bayside Presbyterian, and the Downtown Bible Class.

Survivors include a cousin, Lulla L. Budle of Phoenix, Ariz.; a step-daughter, Joyce Wagner Meisenholder of Murfreesboro, Tenn., who has two daughters, Lisa Stephens and Christine Stephens, and a great-granddaughter, Brittney Lynn Stephens, all of Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Arrangements will be handled by Hollomon-Brown Funeral home, Bayside Chapel. A memorial service will be conducted in the Chapel of Westminster-Canterbury, by Dr. Richard Keever, on Monday, Aug. 28, 1995, at 11 a.m., where Masonic Rites will be accorded by Rodney J. Van Houten.

The burial will be private at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Westminster-Canterbury Fellowship Fund, or to a charity of one's choice.
