CAREER TRACK

ACCOUNTING

Goodman & Company, an accounting firm in Norfolk, has promoted Diane M. Albert, Donna B. Robinett and Ronald L. Gladstone from senior-in-charge accountants to supervisors. Albert has been with the firm since 1987 and is one of the firm's primary resources on matters of non-profit accounting and taxation as well as electronic spreadsheet applications.

Prior to joining the firm in 1988, Robinett received a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Old Dominion University. She is responsible for engagements performed for financial institutions, wholesale distributors, contractors, professional service firms and non-profit organizations.

Gladstone has been associated with the firm since his graduation from Virginia Tech in 1988. He will assist clients involved in construction, banking, government contracting, wholesale distribution and legal services.

Also, Melinda Davis has been promoted to staff accountant at Goodman & Company. She has been with the company since 1994.

And Bruce C. Holbrook, who has been a partner with the accounting firm for over 22 years, received the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants' 1995 Public Service Award.

ARCHITECTURE

Terry L. Deglandon has become an associate and a member of the board of directors at I.V. Harris and Associates Inc., an architectural firm in Virginia Beach. Prior to this, Deglandon was project manager with the firm for three years. He brings 15 years of architectural and planning experience to the company and is a registered architect in the states of Virginia and Louisiana.

Christine T. Newpower and Raquel S. Michael have joined Dills Ainscough Duff Architects in Virginia Beach as intern architects. Newpower, a graduate of the University of Virginia, was previously employed by an area architectural firm.

Michael is a graduate of the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she earned her degree in architecture/urban design. She previously worked with international as well as local architectural firms.

EDUCATION

Linda S. Berry is the new multicultural affairs coordinator at Virginia Wesleyan College. The office of multicultural affairs provides services that support the distinctiveness of racial and ethnic minorities within the campus community.

Berry will also be responsible for providing programs that will heighten awareness and increase sensitivity and appreciation of various cultures, and for assessing the college's constituent needs and interests related to multiculturalism. Before coming to Wesleyan, Berry was the registrar at Upsala College in East Orange, N.J.

HEALTH CARE

Dr. Merih Dagli has joined the medical staff at Bayside Family Practice as a family practitioner, a Sentara medical group member. Dagli attended Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University, in Philadelphia where she received her doctorate in medicine in 1992. Before joining Bayside Family Practice, she did her residency at Overlook Family Practice in Summit, N.J.

HOSPITALITY

Michelle Tucker is promotions manager for the marketing staff at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. Tucker began working with the Anheuser-Busch Theme Parks last year as promotions assistant at Sea World of Florida.

Prior to that, she served internships with the Orlando Sentinel, WordWise Marketing and Public Relations, as well as the University of Central Florida.

ORGANIZATIONS

Barry D. Knight of Virginia Beach has been appointed by Gov. George Allen to the Virginia Pork Industry Board. Knight has been owner and operator of Barry D. Knight Hog Farms in Virginia Beach for the past 15 years.

John B. Hightower, president and CEO of the Mariners' Museum in Newport News, has been elected chairman of the executive directors council of the Cultural Alliance of Hampton Roads. The executive directors council serves as a forum for arts and cultural professionals to discuss programs and issues of mutual concern. Hightower has been a member of the executive directors council since 1994.

LAW

Ashley L. Taylor Jr. has become an associate with the Norfolk law firm of Kaufman & Canoles. Taylor will be working for the firm's litigation section. Before joining the firm, he clerked with David A. Faber, U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of West Virginia from 1993 to 1995.

Clarification: The president, vice president and secretary/treasurer of the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters were elected by the professional staff of the hospital. The officers were listed in the Aug. 14 issue of Business Weekly. MEMO: Career Track reports upper-level executive and management changes.
