Dennis Wilfred Midgette Sr., 87, of Ridgefield Drive, died Saturday afternoon, Aug. 26, 1995.
He was a native of Buxton, N.C., and was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Mr. Midgette was the son of the late Evan James and Nancy Williams Midgette. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a member for more than 60 years of the Eureka Masonic Lodge (NU)317, AF & AM. He was a veteran of the Coast Guard, Naval Reserve, Merchant Marine and Army Corps of Engineers.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ida Wright Midgette; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis W. and Susan Midgette Jr. of Chesapeake, Evan James and Susan Midgette of Greenville, N.C.; six grandchildren, Dennis W. Midgette III, Michelle Midgette, Jeff Stevens and Sara Roberts of Chesapeake, Evan James Midgette Jr. of Birmingham, Ala., and Nancy Midgette Kunkel of New Bern, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Brook Midgette and Randy Scurlock of Birmingham; two sisters, Margaret Zavilenski of Virginia Beach and Mary Meiggs of Elizabeth City; two brothers, James Bertran Midgette of Newport, N.C., and Hallas C. Midgette of Arizona.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Twiford's Memorial Chapel by the Rev. William Ruth and the Rev. David Moehring. Entombment with Masonic rites will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and other times at their residence.
