Two men were injured Monday night when their 1991 Ford Tempo traveling south on Wilroy Road ran off the pavement and hit a cement pipe before plunging into a river.
The driver was unconscious when the car came to rest in waist-deep water, but the passenger was able to get out of the car, said Suffolk police spokesman Mike Simpkins.
Both men were flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment. Their identities and conditions, Simpkins said, were unknown Monday night.
The accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Simpkins said an investigation is continuing.
``It is unclear why the vehicle ran off the road,'' he said.
