Paul Edward Buchanan, 81, of the first block of East Roberts Court, died Aug. 27, 1995, in his residence.
He was a native of Portsmouth and a retired shop foreman for Seaboard Railroad. He was a member of Simonsdale Presbyterian Church, Portsmouth, a 50-year member of Churchland Masonic Lodge (NU)276, Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies, Khedive Temple, founder and charter member of the Fire Brigade, past patron of Esther Chapter O.E.S. (NU)37, charter and life member of Western Branch Volunteer Fire Company.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine C. Buchanan, a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Sanford B. Chapman of Suffolk; six sisters, Inez White of California, Margaret Herndon, Hazel Martin, Myrtle Newsome, Jean Baker, all of Portsmouth, Ann Dodd of Suffolk; three grandchildren, Cheryl A. Smith, Paul R. Chapman, and Paul K. Buchanan Jr.; three great-grandchildren; and 24 nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites, by the Rev. Don Hammond. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Martha Davis Cancer Center, or Maryview (Hospice) Wellspring.
