READY OR NOT, IT'S TIME FOR FOOTBALL PROGNOSTICATION

Well, I guess you've figured out what time of year it is by now.

Our new and improved football preview section is in today's paper - giving readers in each city the lowdown on all the teams in South Hampton Roads.

And the action starts tomorrow night, with four Beach District teams in action.

Hard to believe that it's football time already. But it is, so that means it's also time to start up this football prognostication stuff again.

It's been a tradition in past years to have Ms. East Coast Surfing Championship as the first week's game guesser. Unfortunately, this year's queen didn't call to give us her picks for this week's games.

Oh well, the page won't look as good, but we'll get the games picked anyway.

So here goes. . . . the start of another fall season of high school football prognostication:

Lake Taylor 21, Salem 17: This could be the year the Sun Devils turn it around, but this isn't a great opponent to start said turnaround. The Titans are loaded with speed, giving us the opportunity to see if Salem has the kind of speed it hopes to have.

Tallwood 35, Great Bridge 14: The Lions tasted the playoffs for the fist time last season and are hungry to get back to the dinner table. With some quality offensive and defensive players returning, there is every reason to think Tallwood will munch through much of this year's menu.

Ocean Lakes 21, Princess Anne 20: OK! OK! I know what you're saying. I must be totally nuts - especially after last year's 56-0 decision by the Cavaliers. This ain't last year. Things are considerably different at Ocean Lakes this season. by CNB
