I believe that Shannon Faulkner had great insight when she discontinued her enrollment at The Citadel.
Whether she was right or wrong in enrolling is not the issue. The issue is knowing when to quit or to keep going for political reasons.
It takes a big person to acknowledge defeat, and even more of one when the political stakes are so high. She made an important decision under duress, knowing that she could never complete the program as intended. The Citadel would never been able to ``toss her out.''
It sickened me to hear and read about those who actually applauded and paraded the fact that she had ``lost'' and that they had succeeded in driving her out.
Shannon Faulkner was not driven out, nor did she lose. She made a mature decision that was in the best interests of her and The Citadel.
