THE BEACH BOYS, Sawyer Brown and Delbert McClinton are far from the only stars the second annual American Music Festival can claim. In fact, the lineup includes hitmakers from three decades of rock, pop, soul and country music. Here's a look at the other headliners.
Wilson Pickett. ``In the Midnight Hour.'' ``Land of a Thousand Dances.'' ``Mustang Sally.'' What else need be said? Plenty. Pickett's got more soul classics under his belt - even a version of ``Sugar Sugar.'' 6:30 tonight, 17th Street Stage.
America. Its string of soft-rock hits is still key material for many radio stations: ``A Horse With No Name,'' ``Tin Man,'' ``Sister Golden Hair.'' 6:30 p.m. Thursday, 24th Street Stage.
Three Dog Night. More Top 40 staples, in the form of ``Joy to the World,'' ``Never Been to Spain'' and upwards of a dozen more. 7 p.m. Friday, 17th Street Stage.
Leon Russell. The Concert for Bangladesh helped make him a superstar. His showmanship keeps this rocker touring into the '90s. Noon Saturday, 24th Street Stage.
Rare Earth. Here's a trip in the Wayback Machine. Best remembered for its version of ``Get Ready,'' Rare Earth briefly put Motown on the hard-rock map. 6:30 p.m. Saturday, 17th Street Stage.
The Band. The current lineup, including Levon Helm, Garth Hudson and Rick Danko, made waves with a recent album and are on the road once again. 6:30 p.m. Sunday, 17th Street Stage.
The O'Jays/Kool & the Gang. Two of the most durable hit machines of modern R&B. The O'Jays are a must-see for fans of both great singing and great showmanship, while Kool and the Gang's anthems include ``Jungle Boogie'' and ``Celebrate.'' 2 p.m. Monday, 5th Street Stage.
The Kingsmen. Not just for ``Louie Louie,'' but the nearly-as-profound ``Jolly Green Giant'' and ``That's Cool, That's Trash.'' Noon Monday, 17th Street Stage. by CNB
