Mabel Irene Castle, 90, of the 800 block of East Virginia Beach Blvd., died Aug. 26, 1995, in Hillhaven Convalescent Center. She was affectionately known as Nannie.
She had retired from W.T. Grant Co. after 25 years. She was a native of Petersburg, and the daughter of Joseph D. and Lillian Kate Brown Taylor. Mrs. Castle, the widow of Sumter Castle, was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church for more than 60 years, and she sang in the early morning choir.
Survivors include one daughter, Mabel Bryant Carr of Norfolk; three grandchildren, William A. Carr Jr. of Norfolk, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Lawrence R. Carr of Sacramento, Calif., and Karen Carr-Davis of Portsmouth; four great-grandchildren, Christina Davis Robinson, Cherly Carr Lawton, Kris D. Carr, and Valerie L. Davis; and one great-great-granddaughter, Tashara L. Davis.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in New Calvary Baptist Church, 800 East Virginia Beach Blvd., by the Rev. G.G. Campbell. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Riddick Funeral Service, 1225 Norview Ave. The body will be placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. Friday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m, and at the home of her daughter, Mabel Carr, 7000 Auburn Ave., Apt. 510. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
