Irene Ashby Silcott, 84, of the 5300 block of Sherluck Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 1995, in her residence.
She was born in Loudoun County, Va., and was the daughter of the late Mary Ann Kearns and John Edward Ashby. She was the widow of Charles Willard Silcott. Mrs. Silcott was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught for over 42 years in the Norfolk and Loudoun County Public School Systems. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, attended The Wesleymen of the church, and was a member of the Kitchen Committee. She was a graduate of the Harrisonburg State Teachers College and attended Old Dominion University. She was also a member of the National and Virginia Retired Teachers Associations.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce S. Alcorn and her husband, Donald, of Virginia Beach; two grandsons, David A. Alcorn and his wife, Susan, of Virginia Beach, and Charles W. Alcorn and his wife, Donna, of Arlington, Va.; and a great-grandson, Robert Charles Alcorn of Arlington.
A chapel funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 1995, in the Cox Funeral Home by the Rev. Roy P. White. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to The Wesleymen or to Epworth United Methodist Church. The family will be at the funeral home on Thursday night from 7 until 8 p.m. for visitation.
