Robert Lee Belvin Jr. passed away Tuesday, Aug. 29, 1995, following a long illness.
He was born in Portsmouth, Jan. 17, 1915. He began working as a grocery clerk for Colonial Stores in 1932 at the age of 15. During his 46-year career with Colonial Stores, he advanced through management positions and retired as Executive Vice President and as a member of the Board of Directors. He was active in Rotary Clubs, Kiwanis Clubs and was the director of the North Carolina Retail Merchants Association.
He is survived by his wife, Fern Berry Belvin; a daughter, Fern Belvin Carr, of Virginia Beach; a son, Robert H. Belvin and wife, Rosemary, of Salem, Va.; three sisters, Mildred Merrill of Atlanta, Betty James and husband, Aubrey, of Virginia Beach, and Sue Johnson and husband, Dick, of Hemet, Calif.; two grandchildren, Ben Cochran and Adrienne Tatro of Virginia Beach.
A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, Aug. 31, 1995, at 2 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, by the Rev. Will Kiser-Lowrance. Friends may join the family this evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach.
