John Thomas Lassiter Sr., 90, of Route 1, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 1995, in Evangeline of Gates Nursing Home, Gatesville.
Mr. Lassiter was born in Chowan County. The son of the late George W. and Mrs. Ophelia Piland Lassiter, he was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was a member of Warwick Baptist Church, and the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Surviving are his wife, Maxie Piland Lassiter; two daughters, Dorothy L. Freeman of Windsor, Va., and Louise Gurganus of Hobbsville; one son, Johnnie Lassiter of Hobbsville; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Frank R. Lassiter.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church, Tyner, by the Rev. Henry Pillow and the Rev. Charles Thompson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, in charge. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the funeral home and at other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gates County Rescue Squad.
