Celebrating the 50th anniversary of World War II's end wouldn't be
complete without a visit to the Confederate Air Force's show of
vintage warplanes at Hampton Roads Regional Airport being held
through Sunday. One special attraction is a B-17 Flying Fortress
with Betty Grable's likeness gracing the bomber. John Brookhart,
above, is a loadmaster for the bird.
Bill Baker, right, took a look into the past when he examined an
SB2C-5 Navy Helldiver. Baker logged 700 hours as a gunner on such a
Helldiver between 1943 and 1946. These and other planes can be
viewed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Admission is $5 for adults,
$2 for children, infants free.
