Financier Bennett S. LeBow sought and received antitrust clearance to buy up to 15 percent of RJR Nabisco Holdings Corp. even though the maker of Winston and Camel cigarettes once spurned his proposal to combine their tobacco businesses. LeBow was mum on whether his New Valley Corp. had begun buying RJR stock and what his intentions are. But RJR disclosed Tuesday it had decided against LeBow's earlier suggestion that they combine their tobacco interests under his control while spinning off RJR's remaining food business. (AP) by CNB
