D.J. Jordan rushed for 233 yards to lead Atlantic Shores to a 35-12 victory over Nansemond-Suffolk on Thursday at Art Jones Field.
Jordan scored two touchdowns, had a 37-yard burst and three runs of 22 yards as the Seahawks (2-0) threw only one pass.
``I was just determined tonight,'' Jordan said. ``All through the game I just told myself not to settle for less than 200 yards.''
Trailing 21-12 late in the third quarter, the Saints (0-1) failed on a fourth-and-goal from the 3-yard line before Atlantic Shores marched for a touchdown on 11 plays, capped by B.J. Skipper's 14-yard touchdown run.
``That was one of our biggest plays all night,'' said Seahawks coach Adam Cheyunski of the fourth down play. ``We had a host of guys plug up the middle to make that stop.''
After Skipper's touchdown, Atlantic Shores stopped the Saints, forcing them to punt from their own 20-yard line. Jarice Mason took Joby Webb's punt at midfield and raced down the left sideline for a touchdown.
Early on, though, Nansemond-Suffolk came out strong. Sidney Hazelwood gave the Saints a 6-0 lead on the game's opening drive, rushing nine times for 73 yards.
Atlantic Shores answered with a 59-yard drive and drove 40 yards for another touchdown to take the lead for good, 14-6.
Hazelwood finished with 134 yards on 22 carries for the Saints. by CNB
