Dewey Norman Twiford Jr., of the 3200 block of Clubhouse Court, was born Jan. 5, 1930. He died on Aug. 30, 1995, at a local hospital.
He was a Lt. Bird Col. in the U.S. Army. He was born in Norfolk, and was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Maury High School, Class of 1949, and then attended the College of William and Mary. He transferred to the Officers Candidate School in Kansas City, and was then transferred to Korea. He was a veteran of the Korean War, Past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge (NU)38, member of the 408, and member and past commander of the American Legion Post (NU)204. He was preceded in death by his father, Dewey Norman Twiford Sr.
Survivors include his mother, Nellie Cropsey Twiford of Norfolk; his wife, Bessie Joyner Twiford; a stepson Robert C. Joyner, and his wife, Toni Joyner of Virginia Beach; two step-daughters, Carla M. Joyner and Sherry L. Joyner of the home; a special nephew, David R. Holt of Virginia Beach; an uncle, Woodrow W. Twiford of Norfolk; two aunts, Mabel Twiford Marshal and Dee Twiford Summerell of Norfolk; and two granddaughters, Nicole and Morgan.
A funeral service will be conducted today, Sept. 2, 1995, at 11 a.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by the Rev. Clayton Crigger and the Rev. Roy White. The family received friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The family asks that flowers be omitted and donations be made to St. Francis Episcopal Church Building Fund, 509 Rosemont Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23452, or Plaza Rescue Squad, 3810 South Plaza Trail, Virginia Beach, Va. 23452.
