DUCK

ROBBER SOUGHT: Police from three Dare County law enforcement agencies combed northern beaches Friday, looking for a suspect in the robbery of a convenience store.

The unidentified suspect, a former employee at the Wee Winks Market in Duck, is wanted in connection with the theft of an undisclosed amount of money Tuesday night.

Sgt. Norman Johnson of the Dare County Sheriff's Department said officers from his department as well as police from Nags Head and Southern Shores, got help from beachgoers and vacationers as they chased the suspect north along the beach.

Personnel from Lifeguard Beach Services also assisted in the search.

``We talked to the suspect last night in connection with an unrelated breaking and entering incident,'' Johnson said.

``This morning, when we determined that he was a suspect in the larceny, officers went to his house. He spotted officers from the beach, and took off.''

The man was described as a white male, about 5-feet-10, and weighing about 170 pounds. He has red hair pulled back in a pony tail.

He was wearing dark shorts, a green shirt and sandals.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call the Dare County Sheriff's Department at (919) 473-3444.
