SPOT WERE THE HIGH SPOT FOR COAST FISHING FRIDAY

Spot fishing was good at most ocean piers along the Dare Coast Friday. Kitty Hawk Pier reported good spot catches throughout the day. Late in the afternoon some Spanish mackerel were landed at the end of the pier.

On Avalon Pier spot, small puppy drum and a few speckled trout were taken in the morning. Afternoon fishing was slow. Anglers on Nags Head Pier caught spot and croaker fairly steadily most of the day.

On Jennette's Pier a few spot and tailor blues were landed. Spot, small puppy drum and pompano were landed in the morning from Outer Banks Pier. A few blues were taken late in the afternoon.

On Hatteras Island, Rodanthe Pier reported fairly good spot fishing. Spot, croaker and small blues were taken on Avon Pier. On Frisco Pier, fishermen caught blues, small flounder, gray trout and small bottom fish.

Spot and croaker fishing was fair in the surf along the northern beaches. Small bottom fish, tailor blues and a few flounder were landed around Oregon Inlet. A few spot and croaker were landed along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton. At Cape Point spot, some nice pompano and a few puppy drum were beached. Pampano, sea mullet, tailor blues and small bottom fish were taken by anglers fishing from Ramp 55 to False Point. Some nice gray trout were landed in the Hatteras Inlet area on Thursday night.

Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was slow, with a few small kings, Spanish mackerel and blues taken. Headboat action also was slow.

Yellowfin tuna fishing was good northeast of Oregon Inlet. Many charters had close to their limits of 40 to 60-pound yellowfin. Dolphin fishing was also pretty good, with the best of the action south of Oregon Inlet. Billfishing was slow.

Wahoo action off Hatteras continued at a hot pace with catches ranging from 2 to 8 fish per boat. Dolphin fishing was fair. A few big tuna were reported taken, and several billfish were released. Releases included sailfish by the Wahoo and Connector.

Water temperature at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pier at Duck was 78 degrees Friday. by CNB
