The game's longest run produced the only touchdown as Granby opened its season with a 6-0 victory over Wilson at Churchland Friday night.
A blowing rainstorm stopped play for 1 hour and 34 minutes and only 16 spectators remained to see junior tailback Alex Sunkins take an Anthony King pitchout around right end for a 38-yard touchdown when play resumed.
The touchdown came in driving rain with 4:45 left in the first half.
Neither team made another scoring threat.
``That's why we practice when it rains,'' said Granby coach Dave Hudak. ``We weren't able to do a lot of the things we wanted to do. But with a little water and a little mud out there, you just have to dig down and go at it.''
Sunkins, a 5-foot-7, 164-pounder, was the game's leading rusher with 71 yards in 11 carries. Bo Bynum chipped in with 38 yards in 8 carries for the Comets. Quarterback King was limited to 31 in 13 carries. A year ago he reeled off two long touchdown runs in an opening win over the Presidents.
Fullback Stephen White led Wilson with 52 yards in 17 carries. by CNB
