HUSBAND CHARGED IN DEATH

A man was arrested early Sunday and charged in the death of his wife, whose body was found Thursday afternoon in the couple's home.

Frederick B. Smallwood, 51, of the 2900 block of Threechopt Road was charged with murder and use of a firearm in the death of his wife, Debra Mortimer Smallwood, said Hampton Police Lt. Bob Williams. Debra Smallwood, 50, was a science teacher at Kecoughtan High School.

Police found the woman in an upstairs den. An autopsy showed that she died from a single gunshot to her head, police said.
