Gerald M. Champion Jr., 54, of the 600 block of Maupin Ave., died Sunday, Sept. 3, 1995, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mr. Champion was a native of Albany, N.Y. He was a retired driver for the Town of Guilderland, N.Y., and was Guilderland Volunteer Fire Department Man of the Year. He was a member of Western Branch Community Church in Chesapeake and a member of Lifenet.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Champion; a son, Daniel P. Champion of Chesapeake; a daughter, Sherri Wymer of Seaford, Va.; five sisters, Alma Hill, Bert Hill and Lola Wickstead, all of Ormond Beach, Fla., Arlene Nabbefeld of Virginia Beach and Beverly Caputo of Scotia, N.Y.; two brothers, Ronald Champion of Voorheesville, N.Y., and Donald Champion of Knox, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and an aunt, Mary VanAuken.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by Pastor Jim Wall. Burial will be in New York at a later date. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Contributions may be made to Lifenet, c/o Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Va.
