Judge George Willis III, 76, husband of Elizabeth Kendall Ailworth Nottingham Willis, died Sept. 4, 1995, in his home ``Elkington,'' Eastville.
He was born at ``Arlington,'' Northampton County, and reared in Cape Charles; son of Ruth Hunt and George Willis Jr. Judge Willis received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Virginia and his law degree from the University of Richmond, School of Law, formerly T.C. Williams School of Law. Judge Willis served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was wounded on D-Day during the invasion of Normandy, and awarded the Purple Heart. Upon his return to the Eastern Shore, Judge Willis practiced law in Eastville, Northampton County. He served as general district judge for Accomack and Northampton from 1965 to 1978. He was a member and past president of the Cape Charles Rotary Club and a member of the board of directors of Nationsbank, Cape Charles, and also served on the Cape Charles Cemetery Board. Judge Willis was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Eastville, having served on the vestry for many years and often in the capacity of senior warden.
Judge Willis, other than his wife, is survived by his two daugthers, Kendall Quinton Willis Kellum, and her husband Keith Dwayne Kellum of Virginia Beach, and Elizabeth Jean Nottingham Willis Dodd, and her husband Ralph Wesley Dodd, of Eastville; and two grandchildren, Keith Dwayne Kellum Jr. and Elizabeth Price Dodd.
A funeral service with full military honors will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Christ Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Harry W. Crandall, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, and Bishop C. Charles Vache officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, Eastville, Va. 23447, Northampton-Accomack Memorial Hospital, Nassawadox, Va. 23413, or the Dialysis Unit. Fox and James Funeral Home, Eastville, is in charge.
