The charter boat No Problem made a clean sweep of the annual Virginia Beach Marlin Tournament over the Labor Day weekend. Its crew released three white marlin and a blue marlin for 400 points and caught the largest tuna, dolphin and wahoo.
The boat is based at Fisherman's Wharf Marina and skippered by Steve Richardson. All released billfish scored at least 100 points.
Second went to the private boat Pursuer, also with 400 points. The tie was broken by time-of-catch.
The Pursuer released two whites and a blue. However, it received an additional 100 points because its blue was in excess of 115 inches.
Actually, it probably was the biggest billfish released off Virginia this season. Caught by Joe Costner of Virginia Beach, it was estimated at ``900 plus'' pounds by boat owner/skipper Ray Temple.
Elsewhere, Steve Harding of Norfolk won the annual Tidewater Anglers Club speckled trout tournament with a 4-pound, 9-ounce fish caught at Hungars Creek.
On the freshwater scene, John Hopkins of Smithfield boated an 18 1/2-pound muskellunge at Western Branch Reservoir in Suffolk.
