James Monroe Cooper, 53, of the 3700 block of Granby St., died Sept. 5, 1995, in DePaul Hospital.
He was the son of the late George W. and Odila Sledge Cooper. James was born in Roanoke Rapids, Halifax County, N.C. July 12, 1942, and obtained an education level of 14 years. Mr. Cooper was employed by Portsmouth Naval Hospital as a medical records technician and served proudly in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by one brother, George Frederick ``Freddie'' Cooper of Plymouth, N.C.; a loving friend and companion, Gary B. Cressman of Norfolk; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews also survive.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Chapel of Twiford's Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny McDonald officiating. The family will receive friends after the memorial service.
