MARY L. WARD

Mary Elizabeth Layden Ward, 75, of the 4000 block of Virginia Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 1995, in the Chowan Hospital.

A native of Perquimans County, Mrs. Ward was a daughter of the late Dallas and Alethia Cartwright Layden, and the wife of the late Elton C. Ward. Mrs. Ward was a retired clerk in the grocery business and a member of the Warwick Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Patsy Myers of Tyner; a son, Wayne Ward of Tyner; two brothers, Charles Layden of Belvidere, N.C., and Martin Layden of Elizabeth City; and two grandchildren, Janet Lemoine and Steve Myers, both of Portsmouth.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the Ward Family Cemetery in Tyner, by the Rev. Thomas Hupp. The Evans Funeral Home of Edenton is serving the Ward family.
